Research shows the academic achievement gap we see in school-aged kids starts as a preparation gap. A 4 year-old from a high-income household has been exposed to over twice as many words as a 4 year-old from a low-income household. Imagine the time lost in learning! ALL children should start school on a level playing field. Support high-quality early learning every where a child is!

We talk about qualtiy and economic investment but we still have many, many people who still do not know the learning that occurs birth to five. I was amazed when a young father did not know that learning starts at birth. So while we are working to convince our community leaders of the value of investing in early learning, we also need to be sure we share the wonders of lthe learning of infants and toddler with our neighbors and friends and children's friends.

It goes without saying that every single child deserves and should get high quality child care if they need to go to child care. They are the future. This is a building block to their future. We cannot afford to blow it and they cannot afford us blowing it. Pay now or pay later. Our children are our most precious resource and they deserve the best.

Would you take your car into a shop that provides lousy service? Of course not. You want your car to work properly, be dependable and take you where you need to go. What about child care? Parents want the best for their children and we can do more to offer a selection high-quality learning environments. Today's children are the "drivers" that will be leading us down the road in the future. They deserve the best in terms of quality and it’s our responsibility to provide that for them.

Early learning is important for several reasons but there is one very good reason! These young children are our best resource they are the leaders of tomorrow. Without good quality early learning who will be capable of taking care of all of our tomorrows? We are years behind some countries that honor education. We need to start early and give the children the quality they deserve so that our children can have a positive outlook on education and so they are prepared for the great jobs we have in store for their futures. If we don’t act while they are very young then it won’t be the kids that let us down it will be us that let our children down. Early learning is our best hope of giving our children the best possible chance at success. Start young, and continue on!!
